Never moan again about studying

Me and a few classmates were saying how we felt a little underwhelmed, as we thought we were not doing enough. We kept thinking that we're doing something wrong, as we would read up on the lesson prior but felt that we needed more. AND oh boy did we get a shock, the amount of reading, home study and assignments now due within a few weeks, makes us feel like we are barely treading water before drowning. Usually, I would feel overwhelmed and decide to bury my head in the sand, but I am so determined to get through the next 3 years, and not just by passing each stage but surpassing all my own expectations too.

We had our first OSCE this week, just an introduction to the exam we have to sit in June.  We had such fun, it was just hilarious, the tutor we have is amazing too. He just makes you feel at ease. He manages to make it ok to say things that you might think are correct, but then he will subtly correct you after you explain why we came to a certain decision.

As an HCA, I have found out that we really are blank canvases, we really are not knowledgeable at all. We go through training etc, we just do what we are told, and are not expected to question it, whereas now after what we learned on our first day in the OSCE room, it is hard not to ask why?

Have my shift tomorrow, so hope I'm not too inquisitive as I don't want to come over as overly bearing.

Well here's to a nice Bank Holiday Weekend lets hope I get to have a nice day out on Monday to study.

Great First Week at Uni

Well, the day finally arrived and I am now on my new journey of nursing.  I began my course on Monday 16th April as planned, with a small class of just 6, but by Thursday had actually dwindled down to just 4.  But that's ok as we have found out, that as of June we will be joining the February intake, so the work we have to do to catch up is heavy but do-able.

On Monday, it was just an induction day, so we finished pretty early at 1pm. We did get some nice goodies, as well as free study books which we should receive within the next few weeks. along with £200 on our I.D cards for other books we may want, which is a great gift to have.

When we had our tutorial on what we will be studying, we found out the modules are, Essential skills for Higher Education and Health Care, Search Skills for Higher Education and Health Care, Protection of Vulnerable People and finally Introduction of Personal Practice. Each module has an assignment and lots of reading materials and online resources.

We have to make up all the work that the February intake have done so far and be up to date by the first week of June. Am I looking forward to joining the Feb intake, not really as they will already have their cliques and so will be hard to join in other groups.

Heres to week 2 on Monday and finally, hopefully, we collect our I.D cards.

Start Date is Confirmed

Today I finally got around to finalising my university place, which will begin on Monday 16th April 2018.  This is going to be the start of something amazing that has taken 30 years to get too and my 3rd attempt of applying, so it is plain to see my life needed to go the path it had in order to get to this wonderful position of having brought up 2 wonderful boys and then have time for me now to grab every opportunity I can to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming a nurse.

My bedroom will now double up as my study room, for when i need quiet if hubby is home and working on his business stuff. Its a nice cozy corner with a desk and computer, a nice new HP Envy printer and a large bookshelf.  All I want now is to get going, although my fellow student nurses that I know have told me, be careful what you wish for as the next 3 years will be the hardest you will have, apart from the past 20 as an at home mummy.

well short and sweet but bye for now blogging world. see you soon

Starting Nursing April 2018

Wow a long time since I have been here, but a great development since starting the Access to Nursing, I received an unconditional to study BSc Adult Nursing from the 16th April, I was so shocked and happy as I had also received offers from all my UCAS offers but they all wanted 30 D and 12/15 M's.  I had my hopes on going to Kings College London but alas I decided to hang on and begin 6 months earlier.

So, I am now just waiting to Pre-Enroll for the course which will be sometime next week, as its not long now till I begin one of the best careers in the world.

Student nurse Khadijah is on the way.

How quick life changes

Well I'm hitting 50 in September, and I am finally fulfilling my one wish and thats to become a nurse, I have studied all sorts over the years but I have never been able to get into the one career I've always wanted, and that was nursing.

Always being told I had no experience and so kept getting refused. Then by chance I applied for a job as an Healthcare Assistant and blow me down I got the job, with no experience what so ever and just a few months in Im already on my way to studying as a nurse.

Firstly though after 2 years of trying I am going to be doing an Access to Nursing Diploma, as they have eventually given me a place of study.  They asked me what job I was doing, and I told them that I worked for the NHS and that its ward based with elderly medical care. Didn't even need a proper interview as they gave me an unconditional offer, I was so happy, as were my nurses as work, they kept egging me on to go for it and I did. I just can't wait to get this year over with and start University. I already have my first choice ready, just hoping I get past the interview stages that will come my way.

well thats it for now will be back to chat about my days at work, without breaking any rules 😁 Im back to work Monday as I've had annual leave for the past 10 days. So heres looking forward to see what I will turn up to at 7am, for my long 12.5hr shift.
